Physical Education

MEET YOUR P.E. TEACHERS
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT P.E.

Hello Sierra Verde students & parents!
Welcome back to another year at Sierra Verde! We would like to take a minute to share some of our physical education goals and provide some helpful information pertaining to the program.
One of our primary goals as physical educators is teaching children the benefits of keeping themselves healthy and fit and continuing those positive habits during the course of their lifetime. In our program, we provide learning experiences which are developmentally appropriate. These activities will teach students how to be physically active in ways that will increase their skill-related abilities, as well as improving their overall health. In addition, they develop a positive self-esteem and a sense of enjoyment through physical activity.
OUR PROGRAM GOALS:
* Our curriculum combines an integrated balance of instruction for individual, team, lifetime fitness, and health experiences that enhance the development of every child.
* We teach activities that give students the opportunity to work together to improve social and cooperative skills.
* Fitness assessment and education is on-going and used as a process of helping students find enjoyment, increase their own awareness, and improve or maintain their physical health and well-being.
* Students are taught proper exercise techniques and body mechanics that promote health and skill-related objectives.
* Grades are based on individual assessment of a child’s level of physical activity, cognitive understanding, and citizenship.
Students in K-6th grade will meet one to two times per week for 45 minutes.
The 7th and 8th grade students meet every day for 45 minutes for one semester (1/2 yr.)
We highly encourage students to incorporate what they have learned in our classes to build a lifelong desire to be physically active outside of class.
Please view the tabs on the left side column, under "THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT P.E." section for more program information.
We are looking forward to another awesome school year in P.E.!
