Bachelor of Science Degree - Elementary Education, Grand Canyon University
SEI Provisional Endorsement
Welcome to 4th Grade Science! My name Mrs. Holly Lyons and I am excited to begin my thirtieth year of teaching! I have taught in the Deer Valley School District for the past eighteen years, and prior to that, taught overseas for four years in Central Asia and in another Phoenix district for seven years. I have taught a variety of grade levels during my teaching career - 4th (now), 2nd, 1st, and Kindergarten. I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, and also attended the University of Arizona.
Welcome to the wonderful world of fourth grade! This is going to be an exciting year for your child and I am eager to help your child have a successful and enjoyable school experience. Be ready to see a great deal of growth in your child in many different areas this year. I am looking forward to working with you to help your child learn, both academically and personally.
To give you some background about myself, my name is Holly Lyons and I will be your child’s Science teacher this school year in 4th grade! I am starting my eighteenth year in the Deer Valley Unified School District and I am excited to be a part of the wonderful community that is Sierra Verde! I am excited to begin my twenty-ninth year as a teacher! I have taught a variety of grade levels during my teaching career and all subject areas as well. I attended the University of Arizona and transferred and graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I was a Wildcat, then an Antelope, and am now happy to be a Sierra Verde Viper!
Prior to teaching at Sierra Verde, I taught at schools located in Peoria and Phoenix, and I taught at an international school as well. Our family spent four years overseas in Uzbekistan. This country in Central Asia was once a part of the former Soviet Union. While living overseas, our family had the unique opportunity to explore fascinating old cities and learn about various cultures. I enjoy sharing about our travels and those experiences, as we learn about the world around us! We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and adventures, and gained a wealth of knowledge. But we love being back in the Valley of the Sun near family and friends!
Outside of school, I LOVE to spend time with and enjoy activities with family and friends. My husband (yes, the also-teaching-Science "Mr." Lyons at SV) and I have been married 28 years. We are greatly blessed by our two incredible kids ~ a son who graduated from ASU (& works in a STEM field) and a daughter heading to college this August. Since Mr. Lyons is an educator as well, you will often find us exploring and adventuring as a family! We like traveling, adventuring, playing games, watching movies, reading books, being involved with our church, cooking different kinds of foods, hiking, vacationing at the beach or in the mountains, and generally getting out and about together when we can. Your child will certainly hear me share about our family throughout the year!
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you, too. Let's have a super year together!
