Social Emotional Learning
Sierra Verde uses a research based social and emotional learning program called Second Step in grades K-8. All student receive approximately one lesson per week throughout the school year. Second Step teaches techniques for students to gain confidence, set goals, make better decisions, collaborate with others in work and play, and how to navigate their world more effectively.
Second Step programs combine discussions with fun activities and family resources. The programs help children learn social-emotional skills such as responsible decision-making, working together to solve problems, managing strong emotions, and getting along with others. These skills can help children succeed academically and socially.
