Hello Vipers! I'm thrilled to join the Sierra Verde family as your Assistant Principal. I have been a proud public educator for over 24 years. I spent the majority of that time right here in Deer Valley as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal and principal. About five years ago I stepped away from school leadership to support new teachers at ASU and the Washington Elementary School District. Now I'm back! On a personal note I am an Arizona native. I married my high school sweetheart almost 25 years ago. We have 3 cats and enjoy traveling the world together.
Welcome to 3rd grade! My name is Mrs. Johnson and I have the privilege of being your teacher
this year. I hope you’re as excited to be back as I am! 3rd grade is a very exciting year and I can’t wait
to get started! We have a lot to learn and I’m sure we’re going to have a great time together.
I want to tell you a little about myself. I have taught at Esperanza Elementary School where I
was a Preschool Instructional Assistant for Head Start and a 2nd grade teacher. I graduated from
Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I also have my SEI
Endorsement. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, watching sports,
swimming, and going to Starbucks to read and relax. I am married and have two children. My son will be a
fifth grader and my daughter will be a second grader. I am excited for all the new adventures this year
will bring for all of us!
Parents, I want you to know how important it is for you to be involved in your child’s education.
Throughout the year you will be receiving messages from me, and I encourage you to contact me if you
have any questions or concerns. I believe that your child’s education is a team effort between school and
home. Therefore, it is important for us to communicate and support each other.

Hi, I'm Janie Walkwitz. I am a former Sierra Verde employee with 5 years of experience as a Paraprofessional. In 2024 we returned to Arizona via Florida and Georgia. We have 2 sons, Jake and Sam who are former Vipers! My favorite place to be is at home with my family. I enjoy cooking, decorating, reading and watching College Game Day. I am so so happy to be back at Sierra Verde feels like home. I'm looking forward to a year filled with learning and fun assisting with our students and staff.
